Kaitlyn MacDonell was quoted in The Law Times on the insurance risks involved in the ride-sharing app, Uber.
The superintendent of the Financial Services Commission of Ontario recently approved an auto insurance policy that covers all Uber drivers, passengers and vehicle owners in Ontario from the moment the Uber app is turned on to the moment passengers exit the vehicle.
In this interview, Kaitlyn highlights:
- Passengers who do not have personal insurance, and are involved in a car accident in an Uber, are now covered under the insurance policy.
- Uber drivers may face limited access to Accident Benefits outside of the time the app is on to a maximum of $200,000.
- Uber drivers should disclose to their insurers that they are driving for Uber.
