Daniel Fisher interviewed by Global News over alleged neglect of resident by staff at long-term care facility

Daniel Fisher, personal injury lawyer with Howie, Sacks & Henry, discusses with Global News a lawsuit against a long-term care facility over the alleged neglect of Bryan Dick. The family claims that the staff at the facility was negligent and did not provide adequate care for their father. He suffered from severe bed sores and later died in the hospital.

Bryan Dick was a retired caretaker and had been living independently with support from his children and staff after a leg amputation resulting from a fall in 2016. He received regular visits from personal support workers and nurses. However, his condition deteriorated rapidly after moving to a long-term care home. The family alleges that he experienced extreme pain and suffering due to neglect, and the injuries on his body were severe.

According to Daniel, the fact that the Ministry fined the long-term care home is significant, even though it may be considered a small fine. Daniel Fisher believes these fines are rare, highlighting the severity of the situation.

The lawsuit by the family is driven by a desire to seek accountability and justice for their father and to pressure long-term care facilities to change their policies. The goal is to pressure these facilities to improve, so that no more residents suffer the way Bryan did.
