HSH Partner Melissa Miller was recently interviewed by several media outlets seeking her comment on the new Auditor General’s report on pandemic preparedness at long-term care homes in Ontario. In addition to her lengthy list of clients who suffered as a result of COVID-19 outbreaks in long-term care homes, Melissa is representing numerous families whose loved ones were victims of nursing home negligence before the pandemic began.
The Auditor General’s report found that despite numerous warnings and recommendations from experts, the provincial government and the long-term care sector were unprepared to respond to the pandemic effectively.
Melissa agreed with the report’s finding of longstanding systemic breakdowns, but noted that nursing home owners are “very aware of what their obligations are.”
