Why do insurance companies deny disability benefits?

You have been paying into your health and disability insurance plan for years. You’ve been a hard worker. Then suddenly, life throws you a curveball and you become too sick to work.

After much consideration, you decide to make a claim for disability benefits. But much to your surprise and shock, your insurance company denies your claim. Why?

Insurance companies unfortunately routinely deny disability claims for a variety of reasons. And far too often, these reasons are completely improper.

A common reason insurance companies deny claims is because the medical information does not properly show that you meet the test of disability.

Another reason for denial is that they may have conducted surveillance or done a social media search of you which they believe shows evidence that is different from what you told them.

Insurers deny claims due to lack of objective evidence. Illnesses such as chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome are often on the insurance company denial list. However, these conditions are legitimate medical conditions that have been recognized by the medical community and by courts.

Insurers deny claims for a host of other reasons too. But whatever the reason, it is extremely important that you contact a disability lawyer to help you.

At Howie, Sacks & Henry we are here to help. We do not charge you any fees until we recover benefits for you.
