Early reports indicate that the aircraft was landing when it struck a Port Authority fire truck that had been cleared to cross the runway while responding to a separate emergency involving another aircraft.

Air traffic control communications suggest there may have been miscommunication or timing issues in the moments leading up to the collision.

The incident is now under investigation by U.S. authorities, including the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), with Canadian agencies also involved.
